Ink Cups with Sponge are designed to protect your needle tip from hitting the edge or bottom of the cup when drawing up your pigment.
Pro Tip: Pull the sponge out, break it in half, then put one half back in. This minimises the amount of pigment the sponge can soak up (less wastage!), but still keeps a little bit of sponge in the bottom to protect your needle tip.
